Sypnosis: À Chicago, Henry « Hank » Palmer, un avocat couronné de succès, retourne dans sa ville natale en Indiana afin d'assister aux funérailles de sa mère. Il y rencontre son père Joseph Palmer, le juge de la ville avec qui il n'a jamais eu d'affinités, et découvre que celui-ci est accusé de meurtre. Il doit maintenant défendre son père en court contre Dwight Dickham, un procureur bien déterminé à voir Joseph mis à l'ombre.
