The chapter summary begins with a conversation between some townspeople, who are apparently among those gathering around a gallows scaffold… one is asking why there are so many carriages all over, and the other replies that the brass are dissolving the Survey Corps.

Nearby we are brought back to the location of the king’s court. Erwin appeals by saying if the Survey Corps is lost, then humanity will be losing its best weapon. The Survey Corps can protect humanity from the enemy and can destroy it. He uses the breach of Wall Rose as a specific example (“The moment Wall Rose is destroyed—”) He points out that without enough provisions, civil war between Wall Rose and Wall Sina would break out. Erwin is asked by the monarchy leaders that if the Survey Corps is allowed to function, if they will be able to stop the civil war from breaking out. He answers it is their duty to act, not to withdraw.

Erwin then asks if they have a secret plan. The monarchy leaders stare at Erwin but do not answer.

Instead, the leaders then turn the subject to Levi and his escape after killing members of the military police. They retort that if members of the Survey Corps are killing military police, that they are making themselves an enemy of the monarchy.

Someone then asks Commander Pixis, who is among them, whether the Survey Corps and the Garrison have a close relationship and if that means they were working together against the monarchy.

Pixis and Erwin make eye contact. Pixis explains that he believes it is foolish to discuss the notion of humans killing other fellow humans. He says in that case the titans would be shocked at how few humans remain if they ever breached the walls.

The leaders express they hope that it doesn’t happen.

Erwin and Pixis make eye contact again, and then there is a flashback scene where Pixis gives Erwin some info about the possibility of a secret plan the monarchy has up its sleeve. This has something to do with the Titans within the walls, which apparently have powers to alter the minds of the people… he warns that even if Erwin’s revolution is successful, they cannot guarantee that the ascension will go smoothly. Pixis says it is for his self interests that he will stay on the side of the monarchy.

The scene returns to the present

Pixis’ thoughts reveal that he believes they did everything they could.

They begin to lead Erwin toward the gallows.

Nile is shown to be watching.

Just then, the doors of the King’s court burst open.

There is a report from Stohess district that the Colossal Titan and the Armored Titan have appeared and breached the wall, and refugees from the East district are on the march (toward Sina).

There is an uproar.

Nile gets Erwin’s attention and they make eye contact.

At this point, there begins a flashback scene by Nile.

In the flashback, Nile visits Erwin in jail. Erwin asks Nile where his family is, if they are in Stohess. He asks if Marie… if his family… is doing well. Though confused, Nile answers that Marie and his children are now living in the East District of Wall Rose. He asks what kind of question is that, and Erwin replies that there is something he has entrusted Pixis with. (There is an image of Pixis telling Erwin something after making his speech.) He will only watch, but the choice is up to Nile.

The scene comes back to the present once again, where Pixis is caling on all the soldiers to secure an evacuation route and aid citizens in escaping.

The monarchy leader’s voice calls out and rejects Pixis’ orders, and commands that the gates to Wall Sina be closed. Nile asks if they can just allow half of the human population in Wall Rose to die. Nile continues to appeal, but is shot down. He looks over his shoulder at Erwin, who closes his eyes and expresses something about the walls being breached at a time like this…

Meanwhile, a discussion begins among 4 military leaders. They express something about being patient for a few more days until “that person” gets ahold of something.

Again, Nile says he will try to stop them from sealing off Wall Sina.

A leader asks Nile if he is defying the king. Nile responds in the affirmative. Just then, a voice from behind says that he will aid him.

Supreme Commander Zackly appears with a large group behind him. He informs everyone that the reports are innaccurate and that they cannot presently confirm a titan attack.

The monarchy leaders demand an explanation.

Pixis explains that the false report was actually just a ruse to get the monarchy to reveal what they would do in case of such an emergency… they have shown that they will act in their own selfish interests rather than for all people and as such, the military now cannot to risk their lives to serve them.

As Pixis is explaining this, there is an image of Zackly receiving a report about the end of the Central MP’s control.

The monarchy leaders are upset, but they retort that the military can never oppose the monarchy against the will of the noble class.

Just then, Zackly asks Erwin what they ought to do… he tells Erwin to take a look. Zackly shows Erwin a newspaper extra that has just been published with Flegel’s testimony, exposing the Central MP plot to frame the Survey Corps.

Furthermore, the extra reveals that the monarchy has been pressuring the newspaper agency to surpress information.

It also reveals the fact that King Fritz is a phony king and the real heir is apparently an aristocrat living in a certain area.

At this point, the (false) King Fritz wakes up, as apparently this whole time he had been asleep. (Oh! What the—? Is it time to eat??”)

Nile tells Erwin that he has won, but he has a grave expression. Nile asks if Erwin is not happy about it, and Erwin replies that humanity is walking on a precarious road…

The scene cuts to Hanji saying that the Survey Corps’ name has been cleared and that it is understood that they killed in self-defense. The scene is now revealed to be with Levi and his squad with Hanji, Marlowe, and Hitch together. They were the three who where approaching toward Levi and the others in the last chapter.

Hanji[?] says their names have been cleared and they are free.

The members of Levi’s squad rejoice at the news.

Levi asks Hanji how they managed to do it. Hanji answers that they didn’t do anything.

Instead, there are images shown of Roy and Beaure

Of Marlowe and Hitch

Of Flegel and his company

Of Nile and Pixis

Hanji says each person made their own choice and changed the world

Then, Levi apologizes directly to Hanji for the 3 members of her squad under his watch who ended up getting killed. Hanji absolves Levi by saying that they couldn’t have done anything against their enemy’s guns.

Levi says that isn’t the only thing, and informs Hanji that Eren’s & Historia’s whereabouts are still unknown, and the revolution will suffer a setback if they don’t find them soon

Suddenly, Hanji has an idea. She takes out an envelope [the writer of this summary puts “the envelope from Erwin entrusted to Hanji?”] Hanji says it is not definite proof, but they have no choice but to make a gamble.

"Let’s end this fight there."

The scene now shows Kenny reading what the summary writer believes is the newspaper extra.

Eren is shown bound in chains upon some kind of altar. Nearby are Historia and Lord Reiss having a conversation…
